Please remember that the optional HW7 is due this Friday at 11:59:59pm. We will begin grading ASAP after the deadline. Grades are supposed to be submitted by Monday morning, so it is imperative that you contact me with any grading concerns ASAP.
I have already submitted grades for those who earned an 'A' in the course (under the assumption that these people will not have any disputes...)

Tomorrow's class will cover programming in Perl/Tk. While it will be possible to do this programming on CSNet, it will be far easier to use Perl/Tk on your own local machine. If you have a Windows PC, please make sure you have ActiveState ActivePerl downloaded and installed prior to class. Follow the link above to "Free Download" and download the MSI installation for your operating system.
For a free programming editor for Windows, I recommend EditPlus.
If you choose not to install Perl on your machine, you will need an X server to use Perl/Tk on the CSNet. I recommend WinaXe.
The submission script is still not working. I'm still battling with labstaff. My apologies for the inconvenience this may be causing.
As a result of the difficulties with the submission script, as well as losing a couple days to Thanksgiving Break, I've pushed the due date for HW6 back to Friday, December 1, at 11:59:59pm. There will be no late allowance. Anything turned in after this deadline will be graded a zero.

The submission script, ~lallip/public/hw_submit.pl, has now been updated for HW6. When you submit, you will first be asked for your one Perl file. You will then be prompted to enter how many HTML::Template files you're submitting. Finally, you'll be asked to enter the name of an HTML::Template file for each file you said you will submit.
If you encounter any problems submitting, please let me know....

- HW5 has been posted.
- The homeworks page now includes the beginnings of the HW4 FAQ
- Please remember that I will be on vacation for 10 days, beginning this Saturday. If you require any assistance with HW4 or HW5, please make sure you email PerlF06@cs.rpi.edu, rather than me directly. I will most likely not receive your email until I return.
- Tuesday, October 24, 2006
- The homeworks page now contains a sample main file and two sample data files for use with the main, for you to use in testing your Course and DistroGraph modules
- The submission script should now be set up for HW4. Please let me know if you encounter any problems with it
- Teresa's office hours are cancelled this week.

- Homework 4 has now been posted.
- Wednesday, October 18, 2006
- The drop deadline for undergrad courses is this Friday. If you are considering dropping the course, and would like your HW3 grade in order to make that decision, please let us know ASAP by emailing PerlF06@cs.rpi.edu. Fikret and I will do our best to get your HW graded before Friday evening, though we cannot make any guarantees.
- Homework 4 is not yet ready. It will be posted tomorrow evening.
- Some explanation of the dates of HW4 and HW5 is needed. I will be
on vacation from October 28 through November 6. Therefore, I would be
unable to hold office hours before HW4's regularly patterned due date
of October 31. For that reason, I am extending this deadline one
week. Homework 4 will be due at 11:59:59pm on Tuesday, November 7.
Similarly, I will not be in Troy on the date HW5 would ordinarily be
assigned, November 1. Therefore, I am giving out HW5 one week early,
on Wednesday, October 25. The deadline for HW5 will still be Tuesday,
November 14.
The result of these modifications is that you technically have three weeks for each of HW4 and HW5. However, two of those weeks overlap. If you continue to follow the standard "two weeks to do a HW" pattern, nothing will change, except that you will turn in HW4 a week before it's due, and begin HW5 a week after it was assigned.
Please let me know if you have any questions. - Friday, September 22, 2006
- Sample I/O and a FAQ are now available for HW2 on the homeworks page.
- Tuesday, September 12, 2006
- Sample Input/Output for both parts of HW1 are now available on the Homeworks page.
- Friday, September 1, 2006
- For those of you who make use of Google Calendar, I created a
calendar for this course. It contains every class session, office
hours for myself as well as the three TAs, and HW deadlines. If
you're interested:
- Thursday, August 31, 2006
- Teresa's office hours are cancelled today. You can email us at PerlF06@cs.rpi.edu for assistance with ICA0
- Sunday, August 27, 2006
- Welcome to Programming in Perl's Fall06 course webpage. Before the end of the first class, please fill out This Signup Form. This will add you to the course grading sheet and mailing list.
- You will need your laptop computers in every class of this course. While it will be technically optional for the first class, it is strongly suggested. We will cover connecting to your RCS accounts, editing a file in Unix, and starting the perl interpreter.
