Homework 6 is now available. Please note the duedate - FRIDAY, May 2, at 11:59:59pm. There is no late allowance for this assignment!

For reasons surpassing my understanding, multiple students have populated an array with the numbers 0 to 100 by writing something like this:
my @grades;
for(my $i = 0;$i<=100;$i++)
{
    push @grades, $i;
}
Arrays can and should be populated with a list, not have a series of push statements:
my @grades = (0..100);
In grading ICA 8, I've discovered that some versions of Internet Explorer seem to panic and die if any warnings are printed before the starting HTML (which contains the XML definition). Therefore, it is probably a better idea to not enable warningsToBrowser until after you've printed both the HTTP header and the starting HTML. (No, just telling your user to use Firefox or Opera instead of IE is not an acceptable solution).

Homework 5 is now available. It is due in two weeks, on Tuesday, April 22, 2008.
Sunday, March 30, 2008
I've changed the Check Grades forecast to reflect the new best-5-of-6 homework policy. Please let me know if any calculations do not look correct to you.
Saturday, March 29, 2008
Sample Test files have been posted for both modules, on the homeworks page. Your classes must pass all of these tests. You should include them in the .t files that h2xs created for you. Feel free to write additional tests if you see fit.

Homework 4 has been posted. It is due in two weeks, on April 7, 2008.
The homework schedule has been revised due to the schedule changes necessary earlier this semester. The original HW5 has been eliminated. There will now be a total of six homeworks. The homework average will now consist of your best 5 of the 6 homework grades. The grading forecast page will be updated to reflect this new schema this weekend.

ICA 6 has been graded. If you had trouble with this assignment, you absolutely need to contact us before next week's class and request additional help or clarification. There are four of us, we are very willing to help you. But we can't do so if you don't contact us. If you didn't "get" this ICA, you will not be able to do anything with Homework 4.
My solution to HW3 has been posted. Please take a look and let us know if there's anything you don't understand.

ICA 5 has been graded. Please make sure you view the sample solution online, and any comments I left with your grade, even if you got full credit. And especially if you did not get full credit, please make sure you email us if you still have questions. This information is critical for understanding all future lectures.
Please remember there will be no class next week, March 5. Of course, there will also be no class the following week (March 12) due to Spring Break.
Homework 3 is now available. It is due in three weeks (counting Spring Break), on Tuesday, March 18 at 11:59:59pm.
Friday, February 22, 2008
ICA4 has been graded. Please check your grade and any comments I may have left via the Check Grades link above.

Sample I/O is now available for HW2, on the Homeworks page.
The course syllabus and homework schedule have been updated to reflect last week's cancellation, as well as another unavoidable cancellation on March 5. Please let me know if you have any questions. We'll also discuss it in class this week.
Wednesday, February 13, 2008
Due to multiple circumstances, class is cancelled today. I will update the syllabus and homework schedule online as soon as I'm able. Homework 2's duedate is extended to February 26.
Friday, February 8, 2008
ICA3 has been graded. A lot of people seemed to have trouble with this one. I strongly suggest you look at the sample solution online, and let us know if you have any questions. RegExps are fundamental to Perl, and you will be using them in nearly every ICA and HW from this point forward.
Wednesday, February 6, 2008
Homework 2 has now been posted. It is due in two weeks, on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. A FAQ will be posted on the Homeworks page as soon as anyone starts asking me questions about it.

Welcome to Programming in Perl's Spring '08 course webpage. Before the end of the first class, please fill out This Signup Form. This will add you to the course grading sheet and mailing list. The password you choose will be used for checking your grades and submitting the assignments.
You will need your laptop computers in every class of this course. While it will be technically optional for the first class, it is strongly suggested. We will cover connecting to your RCS accounts, editing a file in Unix, and starting the perl interpreter.
